About the Author

With more than 30 years of education experience, Dr. Mike Thomas is one of the foremost experts on the implementation of value-added analysis for school improvement in the United States. Most recently, Mike has provided value-added training to the Pennsylvania Department of Education, the Houston Independent School District (TX), the Fort Worth Independent School District (TX), and numerous districts throughout New York and Ohio.

Mike led the development of Understanding & Using Value-Added Analysis: A Toolkit for School Leaders and Ohio•Learn, an online system that provides educators access to personalized professional development and instructional leadership planning tools. He also partnered with the Ohio department of Education and played an integral role in Ohio’s statewide rollout of value-added analysis, including the implementation of a professional development program to build the skills of educators from Ohio’s 12 regions.

Prior to joining Battelle for Kids as Senior Director of Innovation, Mike served as a co-coordinator of the pre-service elementary and middle school teacher education program at The Ohio State University. In this role, he was the recipient of the Distinguished Teaching Award from The Ohio State University.

Mike has served as a presenter on the topic of value-added analysis at The Education Trust’s National Conference and the American Association of School Administrators’ National Conference on Education. He recently co-authored a chapter in Dr. Theodore Hershberg’s book, A Grand Bargain for Education Reform, published by Harvard Education Press in 2009.

Mike is a former middle school science and mathematics teacher.

All of the master pattern pieces include 1/4? (6 mm) seam allowances. This is the best seam allowance to use when sewing lingerie. You can use a regular sewing machine or a serger/overlock machine.

The master pattern includes five sizes from extra small to extra large. Patterns are made to fit specific body measurements with ease allowed for comfort and style. Before you trace the pattern, choose the size by comparing your measurements to the measurement chart.

Great book

This is a very good book, as all the other books that Mrs. Martensson has published. It is very detailed, shows how to do all the things with plenty of illustrations and photographs, and gives the patterns in the most common sizes. It even shows you how to do some basic alterations to them for a great deal of garments. The only thing I missed in this book is a basic bra pattern, but other than that, all other patterns are great, and I have used them extensively. I sew most of my clothes, and these patterns have made making my underwear and lingerie a pleasure. I have enjoyed making the things in this and in other books I have bought from Kwik Sew for many years. I highly recommend it.

Even a novice can make something great!

Until I found Kwik Sew, I really never had garment success that I could love. My first book was the baby book---and as my son grew I added the others. Thanks to Kwik Sew I was able to make him pajamas in his favorite designs (Ninja Turtles and Mario Brothers--yeah it was a long time ago!). I was able to add length to his pants and the arms/torso so that he could wear each set for almost a year. Try that with store-bought pajamas! He was so proud of them and I even still have some even though he's an adult now.

Thanks to these books and how easy they made sewing, I learned to love sewing in a way that never would have happened if I had kept on using other commercial patterns. You know the ones---rife with mistakes in the instructions or the pieces don't match!!!! That never happens with Kwik Sew. I also learned the joy of a multi-size pattern; I hated having to buy the same pattern in various sizes. I learned how frugal it is to TRACE my patterns and not cut them up!

I don't agree with someone saying the lingerie in this book looks dated; it's all in your technique and the fabrics you use. Really, lingerie isn't that different today than it was. With modern fabrics and trims it doesn't matter what your pattern looks like! These are all basic lingerie that is still sold in this style in stores like JcPenney and Macy's.

Like a lot of other people I'm sure, I started wondering how medically accurate the show House M.D. is. This book helps to answer that question, quite well in fact. Nothing complex - it's a pretty simple read and helps to satisfy your curiosity about the show. Keep in mind, it may shatter your hopes if you think a doctor like House could actually exist (and be successful) in our medical field today. However, in contrast he gives good overall review of the terminology and actual medicine used on the show. Recommended read if you have more then a passing interest in House.

This book was a good start if you're interested in the science behind the popular TV series, "House."

My teenage son absolutely loved the book, and read it cover to cover before playing his new X-Box games at Christmas, which gives you an idea how much it appealed to him.

As an R.N. myself, I found the medical aspects of this book to be understandable, without talking over the head, or talking down to the casual reader. Where it falls down for me, is that Andrew Holtz is not a very charasmatic writer.

If only the book had the delivery of the series, this would have been a definite five-star read.

I got this for detailed reference since i wanted to refresh my memory on certain skills and other things, i've been working in an assisted living facility for a year now, and you can really forget some skills working in one of these places, anyway, i just got the book today and was reading over it, and it seems to have some very good info, much better than the book that was given to me when i was going to the CNA classes, it's easy to read and understand, but does not have the appearence of something that a child would read, like my other CNA textbook did, it also has multible choice questions at the end of each chapter with the answers in the back of the textbook, so this can also be used by the instructor, i have not watched the enclosed CD yet though, but i'm sure its worth a watch,all in all, the book is worth the forty bucks, even if you are not interested in being a CNA, the info in it can be useful.

BOUGHT WRONG BOOK BUT GLAD OF IT

Everyone in my class bought the 4th edition of this book. However, the material is very similar despite the chapters being slightly off. Somethings in the 4th edition were given their own chapter. However, the 3rd edition has just as much current and up to date information. If you want a cheaper version of a new edition this book may be a low cost option for anyone low on cash who wants to start a CNA program or even study for the exam on their own. Very thorough and informative.

the truth about this book

I am a licensed chiropractic physician with more than 24 years of clinical practice, most of this time offering colonic irrigation, barium enemas and other colon work. This book and all the other free offerings I have put up on line are based on these 24 years of practice and 11 years of fully accredited college and university education in the sciences. This book is a book intended to help others understand their feelings, and know that they are worthwhile people. It was not written for profit. it was written to help others!
If you have any questions about the book, you have two chapters from it as well as articles on health issues such as candida, irritable bowel sydrome, constipation, cancer, child birth and colds and flu that can improve peoples lives but are not based on making money for doctors or pill pushing companies. I believe in good care of my body via good nutrition, excercise, living a reasonable lifestyle, plus good alternative and self care to complement todays traditional medicine. This includes good bowel care with the aid of periodic enema/colonic use. Knox joins a long list of notable medical and non-medical authors that have written about some or all of these subjects of interest to me (Such as: Robert Gray, nurtrition counselor, Dr. Bernard Jensen, Dr. Norman Walker, Sandra Duggan, R.N., and Herbert Shelton, ND who writes on the Naturapathic teachings of Doctors Jennings, Graham, Trall, and Tilden.). In addition to discussing enema/colonic therapies from A to Z, Knox covers some aspects that I have never seen discussed in any detail prior to "Love Thine Enemas And Heal Thyself." These are the emotional and pleasurable aspects that some find go along with the use of properly given enemas. He explains why some people find enemas pleasurable as a side benefit, something that sometimes confuses the person who takes enemas for general health and illness purposes, or even on a religious basis based upon the ancient Essene Gospel of Peace, Book I. I know I experienced a period of confusion. After reading his book, I realized that I was not alone in that aspect of my enema use, and realized that a properly given enema should feel good during and after. He teaches, in effect, that the pleasurable aspect experienced by some need not be disassociated with health! His book helped me not only to accept what I think is healthy for me with judicial and appropriate use for my specific body, but to accept the pleasure and healthy feelings that result. I would guess that enemas and colonics are not for everyone, with some even contraindicated, but for those like me, "Love Thine Enemas and Heal Thyself" is a treasured addition to my knowledge on the subjects, for which I thank Dr. Knox. Although the enema and colonic therapies are not as fashionable as they were fifty years ago (although appears to be on the comeback), everyone that believes in them, or interested in investigating the aspects of such use, will find the book among those to be referred to for full understanding, in addition to counsel from a trusted health care professional.

Jerry Knox hits the 'nail' on the head with this book. it is full of knowledge on all aspects of enemas and colonics. a MUST read for anyone looking to learn how to give and take real old fashioned enemas safely. it also gives insite into the psychological aspects of enemas that I've never seen in print before....

A former civil lawyer, a teacher of moral theology, and a specialist in marriage, Burke found himself unexpectedly called in 1986 to be a judge of the Roman Rota, the High Court of the Church. He began his work there precisely at a moment when theologians and canonists alike found themselves grappling with interpreting and finding the practical application of new magisterial teachings on matrimony - teachings that seemed to some to represent an almost total rupture with tradition.

Central and particularly controversial issues were the new definition of marriage itself and of its ends, the "personalist" way of expressing the nature of marital consent; and, not least, the concept of the bonum coniugum, "the good of the spouse", as a co-principal end of marriage.

Msgr. Burke, well attuned to John Paul II's personalist theology of marriage, sensed the need to seek the roots of these apparently new concepts in the Bible, in Tradition, and particularly in St. Augustine (in whom, despite many modern impressions to the contrary, he sees the first defender of the goodness of the marital covenant). The result over the past twenty five years has been an impressive body of work in theological as well as canonical reviews.

Cormac Burke is one of the few who "gets it".

Abysmal training in many seminaries has led to a generation (or two) of priests that simply have no clue what the church TRULY teaches on marriage and annulment. The Cross of Christ and its relation to marriage, the sanctifying grace that is one of the beautiful gifts to married couples and the way back to a reasonably "happy" marriage are all found in the TRUE teachings of the Catholic Church. Priests today are simply not equipped to properly catechize the faithful in this area.

Cormac Burke understands the TRUE teaching of the Catholic Church on marriage and annulment. This enlightening book will be an eye opener for any priest giving "pastoral care" to someone considering divorce or annulment.
